Watsonville, Freedom, Aptos, Capitola, Santa Cruz
Owner technician Edgar Munoz took over the reins of La Rue’s Auto in 2008. The shop first opened in 1980 and had developed a reputation in Watsonville, Freedom for employing some of the best auto mechanics in town. Edgar was intent in carrying on with that same legacy, but he also wanted to take the facility to a new level.
New blood, new enthusiasm: Though La Rue’s had a diverse clientele, owners of classic cars, muscle cars, and hot rods, passenger cars too, Edgar’s first move was to upgrade the equipment so they could perform quality maintenance services on today’s more modern vehicles. From new scopes, scanners, software, and more, Edgar invested in the latest, state-of-the-art automotive equipment. The shop was soon fully up to speed.
Being small towns, Watsonville and Freedom it didn’t take long for residents to find out that La Rue’s could handle all their newer vehicle needs — domestic and foreign — such as all factory recommended services to minor and major repairs, for diesel trucks, pickups, and SUVs . What did not change is the manner in which customers were, and are still treated: courteously and respectfully.

Edgar knows cars, inside out, literally. Though he first trained and has worked many years as an automotive technician, he also draws on his past body shop experience where he learned the inner workings of frames and the chassis, how the structure of a car works. He’s also a certified welder. With that knowledge and hands-on experience, shop technicians are able to handle the type of work that the average shop would would never think of tackling. From classics to older cars, where the customer would like to add a heavier engine for more speed and power, La Rue’s can usually handle the job. “I tell customers to bring in their car and we’ll talk about it,” says Edgar. “Most times what they want is possible; it’s just a matter of making sure that everything is going to work properly. When installing a bigger engine, there’s always going to some modification. “You also need to know transmissions, which we do, as a car’s rear end is subject to flex, “ says Edgar. “Say we’re doing a lift job to a truck. Well, we’ll need to swap out suspension components and more. We really enjoy doing upgrades; the possibilities are endless and the sky’s the limit. Each job is different and somewhat challenging but always fun.”Customers Are Assured Of Quality Work, Quality Parts All Services & Repairs Come With A Warranty

Edgar insists on using only quality, OEM auto parts (original engineered manufacturer), or the equivalent, major brand names he trusts. He will not warranty, parts and labor by using inferior parts. Edgar and the technicians always ask new customers about their vehicle’s service history; they need to know if services have been neglected. Why? Say a customer comes in with squeaking brakes or a leaking brake fluid, and they repair the problem. But what if that same car or truck won’t start the next day because of a dead battery, or maybe a radiator hose is now leaking, or a fan belt has broken, because “stuff” does happen. These, and other potential issues can be avoided when technicians of La Rue’s of Watsonville, Freedom learn of the service and repair history of their clients’ vehicles. From Late-Models to Diesel Trucks to Muscle Cars To Classic Cars To Hot Rods, Service Repair & More…
